Mossman Gorge

A rainforest walk, along a river bank.

A short drive from Port Douglas approx 14k, through Mossman village which looks to an outsider like me a village that time left behind, some parts from a western film, yet it has a modern school and hospital.
The drive up to the gorge is bumpy, the speed bumps are large pebbles.
We stopped at an aboriginal information centre to ask how to get to the Mossman Gorge,we had to drive a further 5 minutes up a small country lane, this led to a small car park, the guide stated that you can swim in the rock pools if you've brought your swimmers.

The sign at the start is very informative Mossman is part of the Daintree National Park, the traditional owners are the KukuYalanji people.

We chose to complete all the walks that were on the board, which took longer than the advised times to complete, due to the time spent looking and taking photo's.
The pathways were clearly marked, although at some points you need to be a mountain goat, there is information signs all around to help you understand, trees, plants and animals that inhabit the rainforest.

Fish in water
The first part of the walk was on a elevated section known as the Mossman river circuit, first stop was a rock pool large enough to swim in, water is clear and you can see fish swimming, it gave a warning that it is cold and dangerous with strong currents. lookout platforms gave good photo opportunities. The rest of the walk is through the rain forest approx 2.4k, this is along a track so walking shoes are advised.
As you walk through, you can feel the temperature change and more humid the higher you go. It is easily done on your own, they also lay on guided walks. There is an area around the carpark close to the river for a picnic, as you don't mind the local turkeys trying to help eat your picnic.
Lots of things to see, along the way, and an interesting walk, with signs and information boards.
